Additional Subject in CBSE class 11-12

Yeah....after passing class 10 now you all are in 11. Now its is time to select subject which you will study in 11 and 12

In class 10 you study social science, science, mathematics, hindi, english,etc. But now you will study only those subject which you want to study.

In class 11, you have choice to select stream which is Pcm,Pcb, commerce, humanities. After choosing stream you have to select 5 subject which is known as optional subject.

Optional subjects are computer science, physical education,hindi,vocal,tabla,bharatnatyam,arts,etc.

But now some schools are also teaching 6 subject which is known as additional subject.

In additional subject some school provide options like tabla,vocal, physical education,art. But some school also provides options like computer science.

What is additional subject?

Additional subject is subject which you will study along with your 5 subjects. All schools not provide these opportunities to students to study additional subject. 

Advantages of optional subject.

1. If you have taken additional subject then you have opportunity to score better marks.
2. Additional subject will replace your main subjects marks in which you are failed. Like you have scored 30 in mathematics,50 in physics,50 in chemistry,50 in optional subject, 50 in english and 50 in additional subject then additional subject mark will replace mathematics marks and you will be passed. 

Disadvantage of additional subjects.

• There is only one disadvantage of additional subject is you have to study one more subject along with your stream subjects.

Almost every student choose those additional subject in which he or she can achieve better marks in less effort.

If student fail in main subject?

• If any student fail in main subjects like mathematics,physics,chemistry,economics,etc then your main subject's marks in which you have got less marks will be replaced by your additional subject's marks.

How to calculate percentage?

• For calculating percentage of your class 12, you have to choose only best 5 subject's marks.
• Like...you have achieved 70 in mathematics,80 in physics,80 in chemistry,80 in optional and 90 in additional subject then you will take additional subject not mathematics.Your total percentage will be 82% instead of 78%. This is one of the main advantage of taking additional subject.

It creates a new career options

• If you take additional subject then it will open a new career option for you. Like you have selected pcb as a stream and physical education as a optional and mathematics as additional subject then you have a career options in biotechnology,etc.

Which are the additional subjects?

• Optional Subjects with PCB (Medical Stream): Psychology, Home Science, Mathematics, Economics, Biotechnology, Fine Arts, and Physical Education
• Optional Subjects with PCM (Non-Medical Stream): Biotechnology, Economics, Computer Science, Home Science, Fine Arts, and Physical Education
• Optional Subjects with Commerce Stream: Mathematics, Informatics Practices, Psychology, Fine Arts, Physical Education, Multimedia and Web Technology, Legal Studies, and Entrepreneurship.
• Optional Subjects with Humanities Stream: Economics, Psychology, Mathematics, Home Science, Legal Studies, Fine Arts, Physical Education, Media Studies, Music.

The choices you get to choose from will depend on your school, since some schools may not offer all of the above-mentioned options.

If you are fail in additional subject.

Your 6th subject marks are not counted to your overall percentage and even for admission purposes, only four/five subjects are counted. Thus, in a case where you’re not able to obtain a passing percentage in your 6th subject, it’s up to you whether you wish to write the examination again or not.

The marks in your 6th subject will however still be written on your final marksheet, and may not give a good impression to future recruiters if you’ve not passed the subject. This is something to take into consideration
